Essence
The Tide represents the fundamental rhythm of existence—the eternal dance between advance and retreat, giving and receiving, holding and releasing. This archetype teaches us that all of life moves in cycles, and that wisdom lies not in controlling these rhythms but in understanding and harmonizing with them. The Tide reminds us that what recedes will return, what arrives will eventually depart, and that both movements are necessary and natural. It speaks to the profound truth that we are not separate from these greater rhythms but are expressions of them, and that our power lies in flowing with rather than against the fundamental currents of existence.
Symbolism
The tide is the great rhythm of coming and going. The water poured back into the sea is giving back what was received, joining one's own part to the larger cycle. The full moon is the hidden force that moves the tides and the inner rhythms of life. The starfish, left by the last tide, show what each ebb leaves behind.
